5 Meditation Tips for Beginners
By: PsychicSunshine
Many of my clients express the desire to learn how to meditate. Often, their only reference on what meditation is or how to do it is based on moves or television. This can be intimidating because it is assumed that you need to be in a certain position, have a certain type of clothing or music on, have a special mat or incense filling the room. While all of these elements can be useful and helpful in your meditations, none of them is required or even necessary! Here are my personal five tips for how YOU can begin meditating - today....without anything other than your body, mind and spirit!
1) Find a Quiet Place ~ It doesn't have to be 100% noise free, but you do need to be able to focus your energy and mind, so having the dog barking and kids screaming or traffic noise or someone talking on the phone next to you is probably not ideal. A few places you can meditate are: lying in bed at night or early in the morning, while taking a shower or otherwise using the restroom (wink), while driving to work (be careful with this one, as you don't want to become TOO relaxed!).
2) Find Five to Ten Minutes ~ That's right! Just five or ten minutes per day is all you need to get started! Most of us can find this time - especially if you look to the above list of places you can meditate. For these short sessions, you will want to remain alert and focused, unless you are meditating right before you fall asleep of course. I often meditate as soon as I wake up in the morning, but do whatever works for you!
3) Music is Optional ~ You don't need to have soothing music playing, you don't have to have incense burning, you don't need any special tools or mats or clothes or other equipment. You don't have to have candles burning either. All of these things can HELP you to relax and focus on your meditations, but none of them is something that you MUST have in order to meditate effectively!
4) Relaxation & Breathing ~ To begin meditating, simply relax your whole body from head to toe, mindfully. As you do this, take slow, deep breaths in through your mouth and out through your nose. Some find it helpful to count as they do this. Others find it becomes distracting. As you begin to feel relaxed, try to focus on clearing your mind by imagining your worries being put into little balloons which you then send away into the sky. Use whatever imagery works for you - but this is just one example. Think about the positive things in your life, thinks you have gratitude for, and express this gratitude either openly (out loud) or just in your own mind. Imagine things that you want to have happen to you - either that day or next week or in the next 6 months or 5 years - whatever timeframe you desire. Visualize these things taking place for you, and express gratitude to the universe or God (depending on your beliefs). Continue your breathing throughout. Many people suggest that this is basically prayer, and yes - in a sense it is. However you are doing so while also relaxing your mind and body fully with your breathing, and focusing on the here and now.
5) Consistency is KEY ~ As with most things in life that you want to achieve, be consistent! The more you practice meditation, the more second nature it becomes. Most habits take about a month to form, and meditation is no exception. Meditating daily is what I recommend, since it does take so little time and effort. However find what works best for YOU. That's who you are meditating for. No one else but YOU!
I hope you've enjoyed this quick list of tips for beginners! Please give it a try and let me know what you think by sending me a message in my inbox on Fiverr! If you feel like you need a little help with becoming more relaxed, I will be glad to do a distance healing session for you, or a spell to release negative energy and replace it with positive energy! Either of these would be a great start to get your mind, body and spirit 'tuned up' and ready for meditation!
Blessings,
Sunny :)
